MORE THAN JUST GAMES : the future of esports in India

The esports industry is comparatively new to the Indian community, although the industry is there for over a decade now, but India been a late bloomer still managed to get hands over this new type of electronic sports that seems to have a bright future ahead.
In today's digital age several of our cultural experience have undergone an online metamorphosis, with the internet becoming such indespensible element of our social fabric, the process has spurred the evolution of our traditional ideas into exciting and innovative forms, and esports embodies that. Infact India is making waves in the field, you would not believe.
So what's esports :  For the uninitiated, esports is professional video gaming, often held in the from of competitions, this events test the skills of the participants in varied  of games such as Pubg, overwatch, CS:Go, call of duty, league of legends, valorant etc.
Sadly esports is watered down to just casual gaming on screen, if you are a victim of the confusion, know well that it's far more professional and nuanced , when compared to casual gaming fraternity.
Over years esports has matured well beyond a catchy buzzword and a passionate culture. The global esports market was worth net $906 million in 2018, Fortnite world cup of 2019 had a event prize pool of whopping $100 million

So where India stands on :  India is already among the top 5 countries for mobile gaming , according to Forbes, the country has over 300 game development companies which was a mere 25 just a decade back, india's mobile gaming market is estimated to worth $1.1 billion dollars as of 2020,a servey reveals mobile gaming is a part of life for 1/3 of Indians , with 40% men and 35% women playing mobile games atleast 5 days a week.

Respawning the culture :  it's fairly evident thst the future of esports in India is quite promising and evident, despite having occasional setbacks, unlike traditional sports, you only need a console and a internet to start which further breaks down any socio-economic barriers and makes it all more inclusive.

As optimistic as it sounds , India has always victim of archaic norms and culture that hinders the growth of sports in general, but a posative approach is being seen in recent yrs, as India participated in quite a lot of esports tournaments last year and all with the covid situation making peeps sit at home had urge an interest in them over this. Some media production channels are even creating webseries on this topic, which is a aswome approach on this topic.

Conclusion :  thus in my opinion, esports in India has a bright future ahead, maybe it will take time, but surely it will provide a huge part in the economy in the uncoming future.
